Background: Minister Abdul Malik Sayyid Muhammad has come a long way from his modest childhood roots in Georgia. He was born into a household of 10 children and received his nurturing under the wings of his mother, Luella Dixon. Her fortitude and never-give-up spirit helped mold him for his future and contributed to his success in education, business and community service.
Education: High School: He attended Decatur High School in Decatur, Georgia, and furthered his education at Tennessee State University and Morris Brown College, where inherited graduated. He played baseball at Tennessee State and later became an all-American member of the “Fighting Wolverines” football and baseball teams. He also became a member of Omega Psi Phi, Fraternity, Inc. (Alpha Sigma Chapter).
Community Work: After graduation from Morris Brown College, Minister Muhammad relocated to Los Angeles, California, for a short while, to work at Eastern Airlines, but his love for the South called him back home. He taught high school at West Fulton High, but was drawn to the corporate world, becoming Vice President of Acquisitions and Site Development for Checker's, one of the largest minority-owned restaurant franchises, owned by La-Van Hawkins of Inner City Foods, Inc. He helped to build the company from the ground into a business averaging over 50 million dollars, annually.
Minister Muhammad began his commitment to community service in 1985, and since that time, has been traveling through the US and the world teaching and lecturing. He has gained the respect of youth, community leaders, politicians, businessmen, entertainers and clergy.
Because of his commitment and service to his community, Minister Louis Farrakhan appointed him Western Regional Representative of The Nation of Islam in 1995.
Minister Muhammad has been recognized for his many abilities. Some call him a knowledge-broker, a strong organizer, a wise businessman, a skillful bridge-builder and a compassionate guardian angel. He is not only a spiritual advisor to the grass roots community, but also to celebrities in Hollywood, among those being Steve Harvey, Tichina Arnold, Tommy Davidson, Michael Colyar, Snoop Dogg, Will-I-Am, Nick Canon and many others.
