The Queens, NY native prepped at Bishop Malloy High School where he played under legendary hard coach Jack Curran. By the end of his high school career, he became only the second player (Lew Alcindor) to be named a four-time Parade All-American and the first player to be named All-New York City four times. He was a McDonald's All-Americannamed All-State by the New York State Coaches Organization. He was named High School Basketball Player of the Year by Gatorade, the New York State Sportswriters Association, Parade, Naismith, and USA Today.


At Georgia Tech, Anderson played the team's starting point guard for two years under head coach Bobby Cremins. Anderson along with his "Lethal Weapon Three" teammates Brian Oliver and Dennis Scott, led the team to the Final Four in 1990. He was the ACC Rookie of the Year in 1990 and was named an All-American in both seasons at Tech. 


In 1991, the New Jersey Nets picked Anderson as number two in the NBA Draft. He played 14 years in the NBA for the Nets, Charlotte Hornets, Portland Trailblazers, Boston Celtics, Seattle Supersonics, New Orleans Hornets, Indiana Pacers, Atlanta Hawks, and the Los Angeles Clippers. He was an NBA All-Star in 1994.

Anderson coached AAU for about five years and in high school. Anderson stated why he decided to coach at Fisk, “I wanted to turn the basketball program around.”

In Anderson's free time, he likes to take his family on vacation and enjoys going to the dog park with his dog, Caleb.
